In Sony HDTVs like the KDS-R50XBR1 and KDS-R60XBR1, a color accurate lamp beams light into a color splitter, which separates the light into red, green and blue beams. Each beam passes through the liquid crystal layer, bounces off the mirrored backing and reflects back out through the layer, which passes or blocks light according to the needs of the color it is controlling for each individual pixel. The three beams are then instantly recombined for projection onto the sets' rear projection screens.
