SONY INTRODUCES ONE OF THE INDUSTRY'S
FIRST 1.8 INCH XGA LCD PANELS
LCX017AL Achieves High Brightness and Resolution
Offering 500 to 1000 ANSI Lumens
SAN JOSE, November 24, 1997 -- Sony Semiconductor Company of America (SSA), a division of Sony Electronics
Inc., today announced the LCX017AL, one of the industry's first 1.8-inch high temperature active matrix poly-silicon
XGA monochrome LCD panels.
The new LCD panel offers exceptional brightness with resolution of 500 to 1000 ANSI lumens. Full color is achieved by
using three panels of different color filters. The device is ideal for use in conference hall applications or in any
application requiring 3-panel data, A/V or multimedia projection.
Although the LCX017AL is compatible with a variety of input formats including SXGA, it is Sony's first XGA LCD offering.
The device features a high effective dot count of 768k dots.
The LCX017AL features 21% optical transmittance and a high contrast ratio of 200:1 (typical) under normal-white mode.
Its 1.8-inch size optimizes back light and provides better heat resistance in comparison to competitive smaller 1.3 SGVA.
The highly integrated LCX017AC has built-in H/V drivers requiring less discrete components, built-in cross-talk-free
and ghost-free circuits and top/bottom, left/right image converter. The image converter properly orients projected
images whether the projector is positioned on a desktop or ceiling.
The 1.8-inch XGA offers the highest resolution and can be configured to meet the requirements of the SVGA, VGA and
NTSC/PAL formats as well as the SXGA with minor adjustments.
The LCX017AL is manufactured using a high temperature process and measures 56mm(w) x 50mm(h) x 4.2mm(l). It is
currently available in sample quantities with pricing starting at $650 each; in quantities of 500 or more, pricing
is anticipated to be $620 each. Production quantities will be available in Q3 '97.
