SONY FIRST TO OFFER HIGH SPEED,
FULL RESOLUTION PROGRESSIVE SCAN CCDs

SAN JOSE, Aug. 9, 1996 -- Sony Semiconductor Company of America today announced the ICX085AK and ICX085AL CCDs designed specifically for use in digital still cameras and machine vision applications.

Fast and easy to integrate, the ICX085 series offers the only CCDs with high-speed, full-resolution frame rates of up to 12 frames per second. These new progressive scan CCDs are 2/3-inch, 1.3 million pixel units and are one of the few large, high resolut ion CCDs commercially available.

Sony's new product family also includes the CXD2437TQ timing generator to make system design simpler. When using this product with the ICX085 CCDs, there is no need to engineer a custom solution as required by competitive products. The CXD2437TQ provides a random reset shutter mode for superior snapshots and is optimized to complement the ICX085 family.

The new units are available in two versions: color, and black and white. Compared to competitive alternatives which operate at speeds of five frames per second, the ICX085AK color and the ICX085AL black and white CCDs provide full resolution at 12 frames per second. In conjunction with the CXD2437TQ, the black and white version offers a high-speed option of 24 frames per second at half resolution.

Samples of these parts are available now for $1,700. Production quantities of the black and white ICX085AL are available now, while production quantities of the color ICX085AK will be available in October. In production quantities, these products will be available at less than $1,000 each.
