Five Suppliers Now Sampling 18-Megabit High-Speed SRAMs Conforming to Industry-Standard SigmaRAM™ Specification

IRVINE, SAN JOSE, SANTA CLARA, and SUNNYVALE, Calif. — June 3, 2002 — The SigmaRAM™ Consortium today announced that five suppliers — GSI Technology, Integrated Silicon Solution Inc., Mitsubishi Electric Corporation, Sony Electronics Inc., and Toshiba Corporation — are now sampling JEDEC-standard, 18-megabit (Mbit) high-speed SRAMs that conform to the Consortium's single-data-rate, pipelined-read, double-late-write (S1x1Dp) standard specification. Reaching data rates of up to 24 gigabits per second (Gbps) at clock speeds of up to 333 megahertz (MHz), this common I/O device is currently the industry's most widely sourced, high-performance 18-Mbit networking and communications SRAM. The 72-bit bus version is also the industry's widest. All five suppliers expect to be in volume production for this product by the third quarter of 2002.

The multi-sourced availability of samples fulfills the first step in the SigmaRAM Consortium's commitment, announced in June 2001, to provide networking and communications customers with a steady supply of high-performance standard SRAMs. Multiple-sourced availability of other SigmaRAM standard devices will be announced in the coming months. Alliance Semiconductor Corporation, which joined the SigmaRAM Consortium in July 2001, is moving ahead with plans to provide a roadmap and datasheets of SigmaRAM standard devices by the end of the second quarter of 2002.

"The multi-sourced availability of this common I/O device establishes SigmaRAM as a prominent networking and communications SRAM standard," said Betsy Van Hees, senior SRAM memory analyst at iSuppli Corporation. "This means customers will have a solid and cost-effective supply of SRAMs for next-generation applications. This concerted effort to meet customer and application needs will only strengthen as Consortium members introduce other SigmaRAM standard devices."

About the SigmaRAM Consortium

Founded in July 1999, the SigmaRAM Consortium is an industry group of leading SRAM suppliers who joined together to set open standards for powerful, high-speed SRAM devices that are targeted specifically for the networking and communications markets. This comprehensive family of networking SRAM standards is also the first to be approved by JEDEC. As the mathematical symbol "sigma" represents "summation," SigmaRAM devices are the "summation" of many different architectures and modes of operation into a signle product family. These high-speed synchronous SRAMs provide the most flexible and highest-performance networking and telecom memory solutions available in the SRAM industry today.
